things you can do to support the fight against book bans:

- speak at school board and county meetings
- support your local library, while many cannot circulate books donated to them, libraries are always listening to patrons on what books to carry and more often than not if you suggest a library purchase a title, they’ll probably get it!
- the American Library Association has tons of resources, including links to Unite Against Book Bans, and organization who’s sole focus is to help prevent the removal of books from public libraries and schools
- place banned books in little free libraries
- this week ALA is hosting tons of free online events to both inform and also provide tools and resources

and if you work in libraries or schools, the smallest acts of resistance can have the largest impacts, don’t forget that.

apparently 2025 is the year where all my favorite romance trilogies get completed and I’m not sure how to feel

what a finale! As a youngest sister myself I knew I was going to feel Gabby’s story the most but I didn’t quite realize how much. I love her wit and her perseverance and her refusal to let anyone get the best of her, least of all His Grace.

and Sebastian, who always respected her even when they couldn’t stand each other. His want to keep her on her toes without ever doing anything to make her think his esteem of her was in jeopardy made their banter and growth so satisfying

If you haven’t jumped on the Liana train with her thoroughly researched and angst ridden historical romances, you should remedy that post haste.

If you are a reader of historical romance and you haven’t picked up a book by Diana Quincy yet, I’m not sure what you’re doing.

I’m currently working my way through her backlist (just finished the Accidental Peers Series) and having the best time. Many of her main characters are Palestinian and Arab and all her books are brimming with wonderful friendships and heart pounding tension. The Earl That Got Away comes out next month so now’s a perfect time to add her to your romance repertoire.

it’s really hard to think about posting any sort of content that isn’t just me screaming into the void. when the only difference between me sitting in a coffee shop and me sitting in the rubble of a coffee shop is where I was born. where every day I’m horrified by what humans are capable of. I do hope I stay horrified because I never want to become desensitized to the atrocities the US, Isr@el, and every other colonial entity unleash on people simply out of racism and greed.

WE will survive this. WE will not let the empires win. WE are the only way of saving each other. Check in on each other, do what you can do offline, and if online is your only means of helping others, be the best damn online mutual aid person you can be. You don’t need to be friends with everyone to be helpful to everyone.

hard launching my new shelves with the absolute perfect summer read ✨

I forgot how much I love a friends to lovers (even though they did have intense chemistry from the outset). Lily and Ben and their merry band of neighbors were a delight. I want a whole series based on this building.

highly recommend the audiobook for this, Aure Nash has such a voice for romance and her narration for the rather large cast was spot on! I’ll definitely be listening to more narrated by her!

it’s really the time for f1 romances and stories. All with varying degrees of accuracy (F1 The Movie at the top of that list) 😅 but where Crash Test shines is in the complexity of our two main characters, Jacob and Travis.

Both of them had such distinct storylines (supported greatly by their narrators). I really appreciate Jacob’s journey with therapy and his mental recovery after the crash and Travis opening up to having friends who support him, his found family was wonderful.

The narration was perfect for the book. I really liked the duet narration that wasn’t just a single pov. Gary Furlong and Patrick Zeller had incredibly distinctive voices that helped differentiate while also matching the emotions and tones of each character. Travis’s turmoil and anguish during and after the crash was captured so well, Jacob’s uncertainty and insecurity reflected so well in his narration. I highly recommend the audio for this book.

Five Year Bookstaversary ✨

this time last year I was in my favorite place and posted a reflection on what I’ve accomplished with my slice of the internet and what I want it to look like going forward. I don’t post nearly as much as I did when I started this adventure five years ago but I’ve also changed so so much in these last five years too, much to do with this platform and what I want this platform to be. I don’t think I have it in me for a long winded reflection this year but I just want to express my gratitude for all the friends and opportunities this space has given me. Including a deep love for romance books and the romance community, both of which have impacted me so much in the last few years.

I first planned to just do a basic giveaway, but i want to really reiterate how important it is to be plugged into your communities and see how you can be of help to those around you, so it’s gonna be a little different.

Five Year Bookstaversary ✨

History is truly just a collection of lives and stories and So Many Stars is the epitome of that. It should not be treated as a one stop shop for all things trans history because that is not what it is but rather a collection of lives and stories and personal histories that show where the trans community of color has come from and where they are now, including a radically hopeful chapter on what the interviewees want their legacy to be.

There is an entire section dedicated to trans elders and it is so powerful and moving. A section on the AIDS epidemic and how the trans community was a haven for those that contracted the disease and helped them with love and dignity while also the deep pain the community endured during the height of the crisis. Trans, Nonbinary, Genderqueer, and Two-Spirit People of Color have always been here and laid the groundwork for much of the progress the queer community has made as a whole and we as a society owe so much to them only for them to be ostracized and further marginalized with anti-trans legislation and bigotry that will cost lives.

Equal parts a storytime and a call to action, So Many Stars needs to find itself on bookshelves everywhere.

happy pub day I’ll Pretend You’re Mine!

I picked this up on a whim with no idea what it was about and I have no regrets at all! Summer and I are so similar down to the thought spirals we go on and Jules is so encouraging and was such a solid friend before they were anything more. I was halfway through the story before I even knew it and couldn’t wait to see this fake relationship become forever!

I think I’ll probably go back and read more of Tashie’s titles now. I finished this in two days and again, Soneela Nankani didn’t disappoint me.

Ava & Roman. I’m so sorry Gabe & Mich, a new favorite couple has entered the villa. These two? Incredibly sexy to start but just so full of heart and understanding. Roman’s patience with Ava’s healing and her journey? Ava not only not letting the voices in her head win but letting Roman be the one to quiet them? I’ve seen myself in all these books but I’ve never been so healed as I was with Ava and Roman. I’m so unwilling to let people see me falter or ask for help while simultaneously trying to be everything for those I love, even if they don’t necessarily need or want me to be. These two have the biggest part of my heart and I’m so grateful they exist.

If you’ve been around since the early days of my booksta, you’ll know that You Had Me at Hola was one of the first romance books I ever read, with it been the first book I’ve ever read that featured boricua main characters con mi cultura front and center. These books, these stories, these primas invited me into their homes and in turn took up residence in my heart. Thank you Alexis, for book that have genuinely changed my life.

me 🤝🏼 audiobooks narrated by Soneela Nankani

I’ve only read physical or ebook editions of Nisha J. Tuli’s books before and it’s been an absolute delight listening to Not Safe for Work. Soneela has done a fantastic job (not that I’m surprised at all, I’ve loved every book I’ve listened to that she narrates). I already knew I was going to enjoy NSFW because Nisha’s romantasies are my favorites but her contemporary is just as sexy and fun. She loves a slow burn and Tris and Rafe are no different. Listening to their chemistry explode had me fanning myself at work. And their banter? Giggling, kicking my feet experiencing them try to resist their attraction.

Not Safe for Work by @nishajtwrites is out on Tuesday (5/20)!

Happy Masks and Mishaps Week to all who celebrate!

This trilogy is one of my favorite romance trilogies to ever exist. Rebecca Kinkade has become a comfort read author and I’ll be rereading her books often. If I’m looking for badass women and down bad men I know exactly where to go.

Speaking of down bad men, I thought I had an idea of how much Dalton was gone for Essie, I was in for a rude awakening being in his head (non-derogatory). He is a foul-mouthed golden retriever with zero filter and no qualms whatsoever about making it known how much he adores Essie. He never once made me doubt his affection for her even when he had to do some soul searching and groveling to realize where he’d messed up along the way, he was always gonna be hers.

Essie. My love. Mi corazon. I love her ability to turn chaos on its head. She has never met a mess she can’t clean up, she’s analytical to a fault, and if that ain’t a girl after my own heart. Until she realizes Dalton isn’t a mess she wants to clean but rather one she wants to get dirty with and oh did they. She did everything in her power to keep things strictly camming up until the wedding but life rarely stays so neat and tidy.

I’m so sad to be saying “see you later” (Rebecca I’m being delusional and hoping for cameos) to this group of friends, they showed up in my life with a bang ;) and never left. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to finish reading Rebecca’s backlist.

Ravynn has said that this book was the book of her heart and oh how that shines through every word. If I had Love in 280 my first year of college I think I would have been a different student. Young people, especially those with marginalized identities are being told who to be and how to be at every turn during those first years out of high school and they are seldom encouraged to sit with themselves and who *they* want to be. If I had the capacity to tell 18 year old Keara: who do you *want* to be, not who do you think *they* want you to be, I probably would’ve made a lot more waves, found a lot more community, and probably ended up where I am, but much much sooner.

Love in 280 Characters or Less is not the typical coming-of-age love story, it’s a book about how storytellers and art are necessary for movements, you cannot have one without the other. How we (society) place an inordinate amount of expectations on young people, especially young Black people to have a perfect voice or comment or opinion straight out the gate. Folks, especially young ones, need to have the space to find themselves and their voices and Love in 280 helped remind me of that.

This book is a love letter to internet communities. The internet is such a special place for community building. I found my people on the internet and it’s because of them that I found the courage to translate that to my offline spaces. So yeah, go read Love in 280 Characters or Less and remind yourself why you put out the art, the words, the presence that you do.

Libraries are public services. They are not meant to be revenue generating ventures and any “revenue” we generate literally goes to supplement our budgets. I’m privileged that my system has the budget that it does, despite it only accounting for 3% of the entire county’s budget. Libraries are minuscule portions of budget’s yet the output we provide is immeasurable. You can’t put the price on creating “library magic”. I get to witness patrons of all ages, every day try something new, see themselves on covers and displays, or just get to hang out in a safe place with their friends at no cost to them.

Librarians and library people stretch their supplies, their budgets, and themselves every single day to make sure our patrons have the best experiences they can. And yet we still face looming cuts and people that have never set foot in a library tell us “we’re just books”. We are vital parts of communities, none so more than in rural areas. Contact your reps if you genuinely feel like it’ll make a difference, but here are things that I can tell you *will* make a difference:

- USE your library card, don’t just get one. Did you know so many libraries across the country offer “non-resident cards”. Many you can apply for online, pay a fee, and get digital access, or even in person access to materials and resources.
- leave your library a review! our admin gets notified every time a patron leaves us a Google review and it does help and it does get noticed!
- attend local meetings. libraries fall under various government jurisdictions, see what your library is under and attend a meeting and explain how vital libraries are to the people that approve our budgets
- reach out to your branch and see if there are any supplies they are needing or wanting
- volunteer if you have the time, donate expertise for a program
- attend a program, class, book club, blood drive, use their facilities to study. JUST BE THERE. be a body in the building, it really does help.

Adriana’s best Leona (and possibly book) yet omfg. I loved this book. I needed this book. I’m so grateful to exist at the same time as this book, trying times as they are, because Adriana will always remind us the importance of love and being loved and how that love will always lift us up and give us strength. Women who fiercely fight for each other but also are able to be soft and cared for without it having any bearing on their independence.

Apollo. I know Adriana will always write a man down bad but Apollo César Sinclair Robles takes the freaking cake. Aurora is the sun around which he orbits and that is that. Aurora, mi Leona. I see so much of myself in her it’s honestly scared me but I love her so much. These two were destined for each other like no other pairing. They’re stubborn and fierce and loyal and so so loving it hurts. They brought out the absolute best in each other and never shied away from when the other showed them their worst. I have not loved a couple like this in quite some time and I’m so glad they’re out in the world now.

P.S. getting hugs from Adriana and Claire healed a part of me.

I loved returning to Syhl Shallow and Emberfall and this merry band of broken misfits. I loved exploring Callyn and Jax as they grappled with so much of their beliefs getting turned on their heads. There were certainly times when I wanted to shake them but then I told myself “okay but this is a very human response even if you’re cringing”. Malin, I love you. Alek, I still don’t trust you. A thread of mine seems to have gone a little viral. But one sentiment seems to resonate: “you’d be surprised how many people require documentation to have empathy.” This is a statement that has far reaching applications. It’s not just Palestine. It’s Puerto Rico. It’s Sudan. It’s the Democratic Republic of Congo. So many people who actively deny what colonization has done and continues to do refuse to express a modicum of empathy unless you have some form of documentation to back it up.

I’m not sure where I’m going with this, but just to say that the more I read does not necessarily increase my empathy, rather it tends to enrage me. The more I read and learn the more I just realize how egregious greed’s and colonialism’s claws are embedded in the very fabric of everything. So I don’t know if I’m telling you to read more non-fiction and history and fiction about these places and topics. I’m just rambling but maybe think about the last time you had one of those “hard” conversations and what it took to convince them to have empathy.

I guess I’m just going to start posting a bunch of the books I read this year and loved?

Starting off INCREDIBLY strong with the Artefacts of Ouranos by Nisha J, Tuli. I have spent years chasing the feeling that I had when I read a certain bleh romantasy series in high school and Artefacts gave me that and so so much more. A fierce brown woman at the lead. Lor is strong and determined in everything she does. She has a brilliant cast behind her full of unabashed support and comedic timing. If you are looking to get into romantasy please start here.

I’d be remiss to not mention (daddy) Nadir, the most perfect complement for Lor and someone who made sure I was stressed for two whole books. Also the art Nisha has for this series is 🥵

P.S. i was going to start this post saying: all i want for christmas...is a completed romantasy series that does not have a white damsel turned queen main character who uses the murder of her [insert marginalized identity here] sidekick/best friend to move her own plot forward. But I left that rant for later.

p.p.s. The cover for Nisha’s debut contemporary romance just got released and it’s amazing. Go preorder that beauty asap!

Happy release day to the vampire romantasy of my dreams. Angela has done it again. If she isn’t in your romantasy favorites I don’t know what you’re doing.

Carolina and Lalo burned so bright and so hot and I need an extended epilogue asap. One of the best things that can come from an enemies to lovers is that once they are together they’re essences don’t change. Carolina remained as stubborn and fearless and fierce and Lalo stayed the most lovestruck, protective, and loyal partner and brother.

I knew A Cruel Thirst would have an HEA but ooh Angela made sure we were stresssssed first. Heart in my throat for most of the book kind of stressed, couldn’t stop reading.

Yes this was a romance but the role that family and ancestors play should not be diminished. We can carry their burdens, consciously or not, but we also must carry their love and hope for us.

note: my abuelo passed last December. reading this almost a year to the day was not planned but absolutely appreciated. The last several years we weren’t close like Carolina and her abuelo but he was a fixture of my life for most of my childhood and in so many of my earliest memories and like Carolina I hope I make him proud in everything I do.

Synopsis: Life in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, churns louder and faster as the contentious 2017 presidential election looms and protests rage across every corner of the city. For her part, high school senior Libertad Morazán takes heart in writing political poetry for her anonymous Instagram account, and in a budding romance with someone new.
But things come to a head when Mami sees texts on Libertad’s phone mentioning a kiss with a girl, and Libi discovers her beloved older brother, Maynor, playing a major role in the protests.
As Libertad faces the political and social corruption around her, stifling homophobia at home and school, and ramped-up threats to her poetry online, she begins dreaming of a future where she doesn’t have to hide who she is or worry about someone she loves losing their life just for speaking up. Then the ultimate tragedy strikes, and leaving her family and friends-plus the only home she’s ever known-might be her only option.

Non-white Holiday Romances ✨

it got cold overnight in Georgia and I’m in the mood for some holiday romances. Imagine my surprise and outrage when I go to find some and they’re all white (and cis-het). Or when I use my research skills I’m having to go to the depths of the internet to find them. Or at least lists without the same 10 books. So here’s *just a handful* compiled from my own research, @satrayreads and @_booksandbanter that responded to my plea on Threads, as well as some @theselfishsapphic sent me from @talk_about_swoon. And speaking of Amanda, she had TONS of recs so please check out her page!!
